Hot Buys, Las Vegas, My POV, Sports Betting No Comments

Hot Tip Coming…

First, let me introduce you to a great meal. Last night, I went to “Treasures” in Las Vegas. Now, now… don’t  go haywire on me… Yes, it’s a strip club – but I only read the articles – LOL

If you take a severe left after entering… you’ll find yourself in a well maintained (it’s fairly new anyway), darkly lit, European atmosphere with deep chairs and high backs… pretty private!

OK – now the good part: I had what I believe to be… the second best Porterhouse I’ve ever eaten!! Read the rest…

Las Vegas Strip benefits on Baccarat

22 February 2010

By Howard Stutz

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The two-week-long Chinese New Year celebration is in full swing on the Strip.

But to casino operators, a five-month stretch at the end of last year seemed like a giant baccarat game.

In 2009, statewide and Strip gaming revenues took their largest single-year tumble since Nevada began keeping record 55 years ago.

But without the figures from baccarat, the casino industry would have experienced an even worse decline.

An Interesting Spin on Roulette

Casino Gambling, Las Vegas, Roulette 1 Comment

I recently found a guy that’s offering Roulette training for the rest of us. If you’re sick of systems, progressions, and table guessing… check this out:

http://www.currentpick.com/is/ATMRulet

You’ll have to excuse the poor English and the misspellings and concentrate on what he’s teaching. I believe he’s hit on the ONLY way to reduce the ridiculous house advantage that is built into Roulette.

Damn the NFL!

Casino Gambling, Gambling Law, Las Vegas, My POV, Online Gambling, Poker, Sports Betting, Video Poker No Comments

Let’s call a spade; “a spade”!

I’ve witnessed poor (criminal) politics, and it makes me sick! What’s even sicker is the fact that people “buy it”. Many people take the media reports as gospel, without questioning. I wish we could all read between the lines.

As you know, I’m outwardly against the “Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act”, and I’m looking forward to the day when this crap is overturned (for all the right reasons you’ve read here before).

So, I’m very much in support of Barney Franks and his tireless efforts to stop it! He has again introduced a bill that would DEFINE online gambling and legalize it. Yay!

Las Vegas – Dos & Don’ts

Casino Gambling, Hot Buys, Las Vegas, My POV, ebooks No Comments

How long has it been since you’ve visited Las Vegas? If it’s been more than a blink of your eye, you won’t recognize it the next time you’re there!

I’ve learned to never expect the same Las Vegas that I remember. It’s a constantly evolving city that never sleeps! I know New York claims that distinction… but c’mon, you won’t see such drastic changes in NYC that you do in Las Vegas.

In Las Vegas, it’s Hotels down, followed by Hotels up. Six hotels have been imploded there in the last 10 years. And the newer hotels can hardly be classified as hotels… that term is to be reserved for other cities. So don’t expect the great “hotel bargains” and “free stuff” of the past. They disappeared with the $.99 dinners.

The Triple Crown Races begin with The Kentucky Derby

Horseracing Handicapping, Las Vegas, Sports Betting No Comments

With the Triple Crown races fast approaching, I want to make sure you know about a unique documentary film that will be shown in more than 20 theaters over the next few weeks.

The award-winning film is called “The First Saturday in May,” and it features a captivating, behind-the-scenes glimpse of six trainers and their horses as they take aim at the 2006 Kentucky Derby. Barbaro is one of those horses.

The film, produced by John and Brad Hennegan, has won numerous awards and rave reviews at film festivals throughout the country. It will open in 20 theaters Friday, April 18.

Hollywood has my Hopes up Again!

Casino Gambling, Las Vegas, Poker No Comments

Here comes another movie on my favorite subject: Gambling. You knew this was going to happen. With Poker being such a World-Wide phenomenon, it was only a matter of time until Hollywood produced a movie on the subject.

Closely following the hit “21″ (although I can’t imagine WHY it’s a hit – it was such a stinker – see my review here in an earlier post, or go over to Squidoo and view my squidoo lens – 21 – The Movie), comes “DEAL”, the first of many (?) movies with a poker theme.

This one has a type-cast in that you’ll see the stars Read the rest…

MORE Las Vegas Travel Tips…

Casino Gambling, Las Vegas, My POV 2 Comments

It is illegal to hail a cab in LV. There are taxi stands and every hotel has taxi pick-up and drop-off areas. You must go to one of those. The drivers will ignore you standing in the middle of the street waving at them. Instead, get to a driveway, there, they can turn in, get out of traffic, and let you jump in. One more thing; don’t try to pay the driver with chips. They won’t take them, and they won’t take credit cards either. It’s a cash town outside of the casinos! In fact, chips are rarely used outside of the casino… for anything!

Las Vegas has one of the finest Monorail Systems in the World! You can go from one end of the strip to the other, and get off at virtually any Casino. A single trip ticket will cost you $5.00, or you can buy a 10-trip ticket for $25.00.

Here’s a great time saver… the Harrah’s Group will let you check in to one of their hotels… AT THE AIRPORT! Harrah’s, Caesars, Bally’s, Horseshoe, Flamingo, Imperial Palace, and Rio all offer this great service… take advantage of it!

I’ve told you before that the BEST Casino on the strip is the Monte Carlo and for many reasons!

Also, I’ve told you to stay on the 32nd floor where all the freebies are (the VIP Concierge Lounge).

A Monster Hotel & Casino is coming to Las Vegas…

Casino Gambling, Las Vegas No Comments

Two down…. umpteen to go! The old “New Frontier” bit the dust on Tuesday. It too is now gone forever. It too had an amazing past… but now it’s passed!

I have mixed emotions about the changes. I admit that I never stayed at the Stardust, nor at the New Frontier, but I’ve played in both! There was something to the old luck stays in the old houses theory too. I always did well in those houses. But, now they’re gone!

I say mixed emotions, because who can deny the excitement in what is going on in Las Vegas? I mean, the properties are unlike anything in the World (save maybe Macao – and I’ve stayed and played in those old houses too). The adventures that are called Hotels in Las Vegas are nothing short of spectacular. Every time a new one opens, I tour it with mouth agape (well, ALMOST every time… I was disappointed with Wynn, weren’t you?)

Sports Gambling – Tons of Fun, but be careful!

Casino Gambling, Las Vegas, Online Gambling, Sports Betting No Comments

How to Bet
In the United States sports betting is only legal in the state of Nevada but more wagering is done on sporting events than any other form of gambling. Offshore sports sites, illegal bookmaking operations, office pools and bets amongst friends and sports fans make it the number one gambling activity.

The casino Sports books make their money on sports bets by collecting a commission on losing bets. This is called the Vigorish or Vig for short. The most common odds are 11 to 10. This means that if you want to win $100 you are risking $110. For example you place a bet on the Giants at the casino sports book and pay $110. If the Giants win you collect $210 when you cash your winning ticket. If you lose your bet you lose the $110.

Ideally the Sports book would like to have the same amount of money wagered on the two teams playing.

WOW – I Found Some Great Las Vegas Freebies

Casino Gambling, Las Vegas No Comments

If you’re looking for some great free things to do in Vegas, there are some amazing treats for you and the family awaiting. Many casinos, in an effort to bring in more and more business are offering elaborate shows that are free for the family in an effort to bring more warm bodies into their casinos and out of their competitors’. This is a win-Wynn (ha) situation for tourists and locals alike who are seeking entertainment that will leave a little money in their pockets to spend at the casinos (which is exactly what the casinos were hoping for).

But, there are many great freebies outside of the Casinos too!

One of the great shows that is available free to families is the Fall of Atlantis Show at Caesars Palace, located in the Forum Shops, next to The Cheesecake Factory. This particular show is a laser, water, and light show that features wonderful animatronics action. Also notice that the show’s platform is actually a salt-water aquarium. You can see divers feed the fish each day at 1:15 and 5:15 while another staff member is on hand to answer any questions you may have about the show and the facility. You can actually take a tour of the facility at 3:15 each day. Enjoy watching the gods as they entertain you rather than us entertaining them. At the west end of the mall is the Festival Fountain show, featuring an animatronic discussion between Bacchus, Venus, Apollo and Pluto as well as a laser light show.
