Brrrrrr, It’s Cold Here Without My Shirt
June 7, 2008 4:34 pm Horseracing HandicappingI lost it today at the track.
I was certain that Big Brown was going to win. Certain! But, all things happen in Horseracing, and today the unthinkable happened.
There’s been no explanation from the trainer; Rick Dutrow Jr. yet, but the jockey; Kent Desormeaux said that he knew coming out of the backstretch that he “had no horse”. He had to pull him up going into the home stretch.
That stuff happens, the unthinkable part is the fact that a 38-1 shot; Da’ Tara won it. He took the lead as we expected right out of the gate, but we didn’t expect him to hold on to the lead.
So, kudos to the connections, and kudos to my son’s friend; Fran who picked him to win well before the race started. She also nailed the two races preceding the Belmont Stakes - Good Goin’ Fran!
Now, would that have happened if Big Brown hadn’t pulled up? We of course, will never know. I maintain that if he hadn’t, no one would have come close to beating him. No sour grapes - just justifying my position - lol.
I’m anxious to learn the condition of Big Brown, so I’ll be spending most of tonight searching for the answers.
Meanwhile, congratulations to those handicappers that bet their “just in case” combinations and cashed over $47,000 for their $2 ticket.
Even the Exacta was incredible at $3954 (and that was with the 7-1 Denis of Cork finishing 2nd.
Third was a dead heat with both of the other longshots: Anak Nakal, and (who’d a believed it?) Ready’s Echo!
So you can see why the trifecta paid $48,637 or $47,309. Nice!
