September 1, 2009 9:16 pm Recreation and SportsIf your poker chips begin to look a little offensive, you know it’s time for a cleaning. Below I’ve listed a few guidelines to follow when cleaning your poker chips without causing any damage to them. Of course, it’s your preference on how you clean them. Vintage chips do not apply to these guidelines. When you clean vintage poker chips, please seek the help of a professional.
Even though the cleaning supplies you can use might seem limitless, when it comes to poker chips we can considerably narrow it down. When choosing your cleanser, there are three important properties it must have before it is even considered. You want to make a wise decision as you don’t want to damage your poker chips.
Three important test must be followed when choosing your cleanser.
Excessive Grime Buildup: The cleaning solution is able to remove body oils and excessive food particles.
Leaves Ink Intact: Make sure the cleaner you use so harsh that it will dissolve the ink. The last thing you need is to remove the ink from your poker chips.
Leaves Your Poker Chips Hydrated: Sounds strange huh, but in order to keep your chips from becoming brittle they need a certain level of moisture in them. Agents such as rubbing alcohol can remove the ink and leave your chips dry so do not use these.
Armor All Multi-Purpose Cleaner, Sterling Magic and dishwashing detergent are some cleaners used to clean poker chips by veteran poker players. If you use Armor-All, be sure it’s the multi-purpose type an not the tire cleaner or any other Armor All products as these will damage your chips. Quick ‘n’ Brite is another popular cleaner you can use.
Your poker chips will have a new look without any damaging side effects when using the above cleaners..
The best thing to use to clean your poker chips are a soft cotton towel and/or a very soft baby toothbrush.. Make sure you pay special attention to protect the center graphics of the chip. Go around the outer edges of the chip with the soft toothbrush while keeping your thumb over the center. Fill a bowl with water to rinse your chips and be sure to dry them with a soft cotton towel.
Dip your poker chips in baby oil after you’re done cleaning them to restore their luster and add that extra shine.
