Do you remember when you were a kid and you got to ride the Carousel? You got on a horse and you rode it round and round and round. You rode the same horse each time around!

Well, that’s the way it’s supposed to be in the real world too. That is, if you’re a jockey, you get a mount, and you ride it every time.

Things have gone screwy in this real world today!

Look back at the Kentucky Oaks: Calvin Borel rode “Rachel Alexandra” to a beautiful 20+ length win over the other fillies.

The next day, Calvin rode a different horse: He rode “Mine That Bird” in the Kentucky Derby. Nearly the same result; a 6+ length win over the boys.

But, two weeks later: Calvin jumped off his KD winner “Mine That Bird” in the middle of the Triple Crown races and switched horses… He jumped onto “Rachel Alexandra” and beat “Mine That Bird” (with “new” rider; Mike Smith aboard) in the Preakness Stakes.

Crazy already!

But now, Mike Smith announced that he won’t be riding “Mine That Bird” in the Belmont Stakes in a couple of weeks which is the third jewel in the Triple Crown.

So, now what? Will Calvin Borel jump off “Rachel Alexandra” and back on “Mine That Bird” for the Belmont?

That’s very possible… But…

It’s dependent upon whether or not “Rachel Alexandra” enters the Belmont. Will she be ready? Will the new owners be willing to pay the supplemental fee? If the answer to either question is “No”, then Calvin Borel will jump off her, and back onto “Mine That Bird”… IF…

… if the decision to enter “Rachel Alexandra” is made BEFORE Bernie “Chip” Woolley selects yet another new rider. OR…

… if Calvin Borel again jumps horses and elects to ride “Mine That Bird” BEFORE the owners of the filly make up their mind…

This is truly a screwy Carousel… it’s as if the horses and the riders are not stationary and they are switching and switching again. Every time this carousel comes around, we see different combinations…
